And some of us try to do everything for those we love. We try to fix their worlds so they have no problems. Our motives are good -- we want them to be happy. We don't want them to hurt. We want them to have peace. We want them to have joy.
But even if we can fix all their problems we cannot give them joy or peace or happiness. Those things come from God and God alone. We can give temporary good feelings but those fade.
We are limited because we're human. Even if our resources seem to be limitless, we are still limited.
There's only so much we can do.
Some of us are stubborn though, and will continue to do so much we hurt ourselves because we want to be someone's hero, someone's savior.
That job is already taken. It was taken a long time ago by Jesus.
Sometimes the best thing we can do is put our loved ones in His hands and trust that He will take care of it.
Trust Jesus to comfort.
Trust Jesus to speak.
Trust Jesus knows what is the very best and most lovely plan for our loved ones.
But sometimes I wonder, Is he happy?
I wonder, What are his dreams?
I wonder, What does he think about?
And I just have to keep wondering. I am the one who knows him best of all on this earth, and in many ways that isn't very well.
At times that kind of makes me sad, but then I remember Jesus is with him. He knows Hawk's heart. He knows Hawk's thoughts. He knows Hawk's dreams. He is with Hawk all the time. He never leaves Hawk. He always has time for Hawk.
I do what I can but I can't be Hawk's savior. I can't even be Hawk's hero most of the time.
But Jesus can be and is.
And that's enough.
