Did you get yourself into a mess by choosing the wrong thing? By going in the wrong direction?
Is it a place you've been before because of wrong choices? Even bad choices that you knew were bad at the time?
Since it's your fault, will God just let you flounder?
Will He say, "It's your fault. Deal with it" and then go about His business?
I mean, you deserve what you're dealing with. You made the wrong choices. You made the bad decisions. You did that one thing that put this ball into action.
We've all been there.
I've been there. I've told myself there is no way God will help me because it was me who messed up -- not Him.
Let me tell you a story -- a true story -- one that is current, like this morning current.
My 15 year old son has profound disabilities -- meaning the only thing he can do on his own is roll around. He can't talk. He can't feed himself. He can't sit up (But he rolls around great. And he's happy).
I put him in bed last night and tucked him in. He has bars on his bed so he won't roll out.
This morning he was sideways in his bed. His head was kind of squished in the corner but he was still sleeping so I left him as he was (except I put his blankets back on him).
About an hour later he was making noises. I walked into to his room and found him really squished. His head was the wrong way around. His blankets were all messed up. It was apparent he wasn't comfortable.
He got himself in this position.
"Tough," I could have said to him.
Of course I didn't.
What kind of mother would I be if I did that?
I moved him around. I changed him and covered him back up.
Don't you think God will do the same thing for you? Move you into a better position to deal with whatever you need to deal with? Give you hope and peace even if the mess you're overwhelmed with is totally your fault?
God is a much better parent than I'll ever be. And He loves you, loves us, more than we are capable of loving our own kids.
God isn't up in heaven with a big stick. He isn't up in heaven shaking His finger at His kids when they mess up.
My son is helpless. We are even more helpless without God. Sure, most of us can walk and talk but without God we not only will make a mess out of our lives. We will be consumed by that mess and never find a way out.
With God there is hope. With God there is always a way out.
And that way out is straight from God.
Don't be consumed.
Don't look around.
Look up.
"All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades, When the breath of the LORD blows upon it; Surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever." Isaiah 40:6-8
"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." Romans 8:1
