When someone takes the time to really talk to my son Hawken I notice.
When someone takes the time to really look at him I notice.
I notice because: first, he is my son and I love him. And second, because I know no one is going to gain anything apparent from talking to him. He can't talk back. He often looks away. It can be kind of awkward even -- for many people it is.
But there a few people who do talk to him, who do give him attention. These interactions often touch my heart in a deeper way than the interactions people have with my other children.
It gives me just a speck of understanding of Jesus' words when He says, "Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me."
God sees this. He sees when you help someone who can't repay you. He sees when you give kindness when it would have been easier to just be careless. He sees when you choose to love in all those times that you personally gain absolutely nothing. Those acts, those words, those gestures touch the Father Heart of God so deeply.
God sees everything.
Absolutely everything.
He knows. He truly knows.
