That makes things pretty clear. If your goals and desires are things that will move you up in the world, things that others will think are great; things others may even envy and want for themselves, look at them closely. Are they detestable in the sight of God?
Check your motives:
You want your ministry to succeed, to reach 1000s of people. Is it because you are wanting to see all these people meet Jesus, or is it because you crave the success?
You encourage your children to be part of school activities and love watching them get involved and have friends and enjoy life. Nothing wrong with that.
Except, are you doing this so they are popular and in the "in" crowd? Or are you encouraging them to use all their activities to reach their classmates for Jesus?
We all have desires. Most of us have goals.
Where do yours fall? God can and does use people in all areas of life. He can use any profession, any situation to speak to people. We can do all things for the glory of God (and we are called to). Often, we just need to ask God to change our motives and then continue on doing the work for Him.
