We almost didn't because once you start sitting down in a chair or lying on a bed on a Sunday afternoon it takes effort to do anything else!
But we did, and I'm glad we did.
Flying a kite is kinda cool -- can't remember the last time I flew one. Maybe when I was kid?
The kite pictured is the actual kite we used and it is in the air above a South Dakota Alfalfa field. She cost less than $5.
Now, I know we grownups get caught up in our important things we do all day, but flying a kite is a very good thing. You can't help but keep your eyes on it as it does its flips and soars and floaty kind of things. It draws your eyes up to the clouds, to the sky.
It takes effort, but not much. You get actual exercise and it forces you to see things differently.
From Mary Poppins:
Let's Go Fly A Kite
With tuppence for paper and strings
You can have your own set of wings
With your feet on the ground
You're a bird in a flight
With your fist holding tight
To the string of your kite
Oh, oh, oh!
Let's go fly a kite
Up to the highest height!
Let's go fly a kite and send it soaring
Up through the atmosphere
Up where the air is clear
Oh, let's go fly a kite!
When you send it flyin' up there
All at once you're lighter than air
You can dance on the breeze
Over 'ouses and trees
With your first 'olding tight
To the string of your kite
Oh, oh, oh!
Let's go fly a kite
Up to the highest height!
Let's go fly a kite and send it soaring
Up through the atmosphere
Up where the air is clear
Let's go fly a kite!
