Baskets were ordinary objects in Biblical times. They were used for everything -- carrying tools, clay, food, supplies for long journeys. Sometimes really large baskets were used to transport people! (Acts 9:25).
In the verses above a basket made by Jochebed, Moses' mother, saved his life and was the beginning of the emancipation of the Israelites. Their future destiny started with one woman's faith, her love for her tiny son and an ordinary object.
As I continue in the study by Jean E. Syswerda I once again want to share a quote from her. She writes, "God's use of the ordinary to bring about the extraordinary is as much in evidence here in the early events of Exodus as anywhere in Scripture. His tendency to bring about his will through ordinary items, ordinary people, and ordinary events is no less at work today than it was in Jochebed's."
What might God use in your life today? What could you put in a plastic shopping bag that might start something big? How can you show someone love today using a simple Wal-mart bag?
