"bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the LORD forgave you, so also should you. And beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity." Colossions 3:13-14
We are to forgive. Most of this know this already. God calls us to forgive for everybody's sake. Unforgiveness does no one any good (except the devil).
But, sometimes we wait to forgive until that person says, "Will you forgive me?" or "I'm sorry."
It is a good thing, a very good thing, if a person who has done something to wrong to admit it and ask for forgiveness, but we shouldn't wait for this. We ought to forgive before it even happens. And then we can pray for that person to get right with God and us for his own sake -- so he can have peace.
But we don't have to wait for that. We can love that person (just like God does us) no matter what she's done even if she never admits it. We can love, love, love and not be bound up with unforgiveness.
God doesn't keep a tally of every single sin we do. We ought not to either.
Another verse says, "Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins." 1 Peter 4:8
When we love with all we are and more our reason for others to make things right by seeking forgiveness is not for us but for them. We've already forgiven them.
