When you wonder where God is taking you just follow and keep your eyes open.
When you think you ought to be pursuing something but nothing is really grabbing you just take a rest inside knowing God has got this.
“Yes, my soul, find rest in God: my hope comes from him.” Psalm 62:5
This isn't my natural state but I'm learning (and have been learning and will continue to learn until I get to go to heaven).
This is what I normally do (and what has gotten us into trouble): I think I ought to be doing something. I think I ought to be pulling my share financially in our family so I scramble and try to fix out situation. Or I try and figure out how I should be using my time more profitably (according to people standards). Or other people tell me their ideas for my situation and what I should be doing. Here's a few of my ideas from years past (and they are perfectly fine ideas but they weren't what I was supposed to be doing):
1. Make my crafts and sell them at craft shows (I hate sitting at craft tables --I'd rather do most anything in life than this. Yes, I'd rather even sit in a hospital than sitting at a craft table -- and this often put us into more debt because I had to buy supplies and then when the profits came in they went to paying bills that had to be paid.....the cycle continued).
2. Become a nurse (which would take me away from what I am already doing and wouldn't bring any income into the home for a few years anyway).
3. Baby-sit (and I have done this twice and I love kids but this doesn't work with who we are -- Hawken who is home with me and is my biggest job just doesn't appreciate this...though I will say my youngest told me the other day, "Mom, I'll let you baby-sit my kids when I am a mom!" I just smiled.).
I see a star in the distance that must be the answer to my supposed problems and run after it.
Sometimes we are supposed to run after that star we see and sometimes we aren't. If it isn't what we are supposed to do then we will neglect what God is calling us to do.
I am doing a Max Lucado study that has some really great thoughts in it. Here's one I copied down today:
"God's economy is upside down . . . God says that the more hopeless your circumstance, the more likely your salvation. The greater your cares, the more genuine your prayers."
You know what I do often -- I forget this! I forget that God ways are totally different than people ways. Sometimes we humans apply people wisdom to our lives thinking that is how God needs to come through. When we do this we are totally off. We are not getting the point. We are trying to shape God into the box we think He ought to live in. And we totally miss what He is doing.
Did you know that Jesus lived on hand-outs?
Seriously. Look it up.
Now, I'm not saying we are supposed to go begging and I'm not saying the ideas I mentioned above aren't perfectly fine ideas for someone. But we all have different paths God is calling us too. Just because God calls your friend to be _____________ and it is working for her, doesn't mean that is what you ought to do.
If you don't know what to do just wait...but wait expectantly. God will come through. God will give you an answer if you are listening. God will answer that longing in your heart whatever it is.
Wait on Him.
Wait on Him.
Wait and Watch Him come through!
