Writers and artists it call it the muse.
Everyone needs something they can get lost in. When we can get lost in an activity, the creativity God gave all of us takes over and grows. We need to do this.
Creating, being creative, is a need as much as eating and drinking are. So many of us have suppressed it for so long that we've forgotten.
It is different for everyone. What you can lose yourself in is different than what I can lose myself in.
(Zoning out while watching TV doesn't count by the way! And even though I am an avid reader, losing myself in a book doesn't count either. It has to be something I do myself. It has to be something you do yourself.)
We're made to reflect God's glory. When we deny the creating part of us we are refusing to allow a big part of God (He is the Creator) to be seen by others.
Drawing and painting does it for me. I've even started a YouTube Channel called Jane's Brain where I share drawing videos. I just started so there isn't much there but it's fun for me. It's fun for my two youngest children too. It might seem silly to some but that doesn't matter.
Being creative will give you hope, will lighten your load, will bring light into your life. If you are feeling down, create.
