This is one of my absolutely favorite verses. It puts everything in right perspective. We are doing God's work when we believe. God truly loves those who wait for Him, wait for Him to come through. He rewards those who wait for Him. It takes tons of faith to believe when everything around you tells you otherwise.
I have a few more verses to share about work:
"'Do not work for the food which perishes.'" John 6:27
"work out your salvation with fear and trembling for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure" Philippians 2:12b-13
"Do all things without grumbling or disputing." Philippians 2:14
"make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we commanded you."
1 Thessalonians 4:11
How are you spending your days? Is it spent the way God wants you to spend it? Are you super busy and looking like Super Christian? Super Busy doesn't mean super christian.
Doing lots of stuff sometimes is from God but often it is just busy work. It often doesn't promote deepening relationships with others or with God. Often we just get worn out.
We need to do what God has called us to do. If we're doing something out of fear or obligation or because we think others expect us to, we need to examine what it is we're doing. None of those reasons are from God. What you are doing might be God's will but your motives have to change.
Anything done out of fear, out of trying to please people, out of anxiety will not add anything lasting to your life or to other people's lives.
We all have things we need to do as responsible adults: make sure we take care of those under us and who depend on us (with God's strength and wisdom); and do what God has set before to do (jobs, etc.).
If you do all that with a constant awareness of God's presence in your life your life will be absolutely incredible.
