This is a scripture so many of us know. I've read it zillions of times. This morning I learned something new that just blesses me big time! I gotta share it.
I looked up "wait for" in the Hebrew. Here is what part of the definition said: "The root meaing is that of twisting or winding a strand of cord or rope . . . the word is used to signify depending on and ordering activities around a future event."
So what, I hear the sceptic say.
Wait!
Let me tell you what I got from it. It is good.
In waiting on God, we are meant to use that time to get stronger in Him. For when the answer comes, the blessing, we will need those extra deep roots in Him to keep centered in Him, keep our eyes on Him. It is His mercy that doesn't answer too soon.
Think about it. My nine year old daughter wants to be a mom one day. What if God granted this desire? Very likely it would be deadly for her body, but even if she could withstand a pregnancy and delivery, she is not equipped to be a mom in any way. The blessing of a baby would become a curse to her.
And think of the many people who win big money but aren't prepared for it. So often, it destroys their lives.
In the wait God is giving us time to prepare for what is coming. He is giving us time to build up those muscles we might not use very often. Thank you Jesus for your wisdom!
Praise Him for the wait today. It is evidence of His understanding and compassion.
