They aren't all bad. They also get me praying right away because I often can't wipe those feelings away alone. I need the help of the Spirit -- His power is limitless (thank you God).
Even when people don't know exactly what they mean, people from a young age know they mean something. So people have been trying to interpret them for years.
I think of Daniel and King Nebuchadnezzar.
In Daniel's second chapter Daniel writes, "Now in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; and his spirit was troubled and his sleep left him . . . And the king said to (his wise dudes), 'I had a dream, and my spirit is anxious to understand the dream.'"
Nebuchadnezzar asks his wise guys to interpret his dream, but he refuses to tell them the dream. He demands that they not only interpret it but also to tell it first so he knows their interpretation is accurate.
His guys answer, "There is not a man on earth who could declare the matter for the king, inasmuch as no great king or ruler has ever asked anything like this of any magician, conjurer or Chaldean. Moreover, the thing which the king demands is difficult, and there is no one else who could declare it to the king except gods, whose dwelling place in not with mortal flesh."
The king didn't like this and said they would all die.
He was being unreasonable, but you know what, God was up to the challenge. He told Daniel the dream and what it meant (and in the process saved a lot of lives).
Nothing this life throws at us is too hard for God. One of my favorite verses is a quote from the Angel Gabriel when he is talking to Mary, Jesus' mom. He says to her, "For nothing will be impossible with God."
That applies to our lives too, not just Mary's.
We all think a certain way (and I think this applies to dreams too). Some of us think in pictures. Some of us think in sounds. Some of us think in feelings even. When I examine myself it works like this. I get a feeling that overwhelms me a bit. Then, I have to step back inwardly and objectively figure out where that feeling is coming from, what it is for. If you're a Star Trek The Next Generation Fan this might sound a bit like Deanna Troi.
The subconscious mind stores all of your previous life experiences, your beliefs, your memories, you skills, all situations you've been through and all images you've ever seen.
The best way to understand the subconscious mind is to look at the example of the person who wants to learn how to drive a car. At the beginning he wouldn't be able to hold a conversation with anyone while driving as he would be focusing on the different moves involved. That's because he's still using his conscious mind to drive.
The subconscious mind; your Autopilot! Few weeks later driving becomes a natural habit that happens automatically without needing to think about it. That person could even start using his cell phone or talking to his friends while driving.
This happened because the driving habit has been transferred to his subconscious mind and so the conscious mind become free. This allowed him to use it to talk in his cell phone.
God uses all of ourselves to speak to us: our dreams, our feelings, our surroundings. To get the message we need to be silent and listen. This process gets a whole lot easier the more you know your scriptures because God never contradicts His Word. He is and always will be Himself.
My dreams are telling me to pray a lot for our new elementary student Bible Club that is starting this Wednesday in our local church. We took the leap to begin it. I've had this thought on my heart for a long time. I must be a bit anxious about it because it is coloring my dreams. So, instead of letting those feelings take me over, I'm praying about it and keeping God right in the forefront. His work will be done. His Spirit will be there.
What about your life? Your dreams? What are you hearing?
