About Jane.
(I update when I remember to).
She's a college graduate from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a B.A. in English.
She received her Journalism training through the Army after she impulsively joined during the summer of 1991.
She was able to travel to Africa, Haiti and throughout the USA writing stories while wearing camoflage.
She met her future husband in Somalia, Africa in October of 1993.
They were married in May of 1994.
After having two children in two different states, God led Jane and Husband Shannon to South Dakota in 1998. A year and a half later they had their third child and Jane began freelancing for South Dakota newspapers.
In September of 2002, God led them on a new adventure into the world of international adoption using a llama named Abraham. Jane traveled to Bulgaria twice,: the first time in 2003, the second time to pick up daughter Magdalena in 2004.
In 2005, Jane again traveled twice. This time she traveled to Magadan, Russia: the first time she traveled alone to meet Peter. Three weeks later she traveled with Shannon to bring their new son home.
In 2009, their final child (and only God knows if she is my final child), was brought into their home and adopted in 2010.
Three of Jane's children have disabilities.
One child deals with chronic pain which is often debilitating.
Five of her children have had to have surgery.
Jane knows what it's like to be on brain medication (crazy meds according to her kids).
Jane and her family have seen many miracles, been part of some great church families.
Jane and her husband had to bury their middle daughter in March of 2013. Maggie (our Bulgarian sweetheart) went to heaven.
Jane used to milk goats (had to get rid of them due to them liking our neighbor's trees too much); still makes goat milk soap; gardens, cans tomatoes and apple sauce; no longer has a small flock of chickens that gives her family some pretty eggs daily (but plans on getting some more in 2015 or 2016); homeschools one child; teaches Sunday School, plays piano at church, sings, loves to dance and act silly for her children.
Jane has been a Christian since March 6, 1988. She has relentlessly studied the Bible since 1987.
In 2007 Jane was asked by the managing editor at The Capital Journal to write a column. Perfectly Blunt was born. And then five years later Perfectly Blunt was killed -- the new editor didn't like it much! But that's the writing business -- one day you're in, the next you're out!
Jane dreams of being a professional reader (or maybe a librarian or maybe an illustrator and a writer of best-selling books). At present, she averages three or four hours daily of out-loud reading to Son Hawken (who was born in 1999). She has given up the illustrator dream. She loves to draw and paint but doesn't like to do it on assignment. She will do it for own project of course -- tried the assignment thing in 2015-16 and just wasn't her thing (and then in 2019 she realized she loves illustrating if hired for the right assignment -- got some great work done this year so she's back illustrating and in 2020 she is trying out some new tools and we shall see where God leads her).
In 2015, Jane's husband Shannon became the full-time pastor at Dupree Baptist Church. So, Jane is a pastor's wife now.
In 2016, Jane finally decided to get her mental illness officially diagnosed. And what do you know -- Jane has Bipolar Disorder No surprise! She was put on another brain med (a mood stabilizer this time) and she thanks God every day for this new medication (that one wasn't the right one, BUT she finally got a good one in March 2017)!
In 2016, Shannon started working full-time at the local high school. And in 2017, he officially became a teacher (yes, he is still a preacher too).
Oh, she also is now a mother-in-law (which she adores being)!
On September 11, 2019 Jane became a grandma!! Little Weston James was born to her daughter and son-in-law.
In January 2020 Weston gave Grandma Jane the name Baba (which means Grandmother in Bulgarian and in Russian -- our daughter in heaven was from Bulgaria -- it felt like a gift from God)
In 2020 Jane and Shannon started the podcast "Bible Talk with Jane and Shannon." You can download it off of podbean.com, iTunes, soon IHeartRadio; Castbox -- all sorts of places. We will see where God leads us with this new adventure. We sure enjoy doing it! It is published every Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Mountain Time.
Sometime in 2021 Jane was diagnosed with Lupus.
On October 1, 2022 Jane became Baba a second time -- our little Sheridan Jane was born.
And on December 20, 2022, I can say we are still doing our podcast but we often go weeks without publishing an episode. I love doing it, but my husband has a lot of things going on.
