And from http://Biblegateway.com:
"And fixing his (Cornelius) gaze on him (an angel from God) and being much alarmed, he said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and alms have ascended as a memorial before God." Acts 10:4
What's a memorial? From http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/memorial:
1 : serving to preserve remembrance : commemorative 2 : of or relating to memory
nonyms: commemorating, honorary, commemorative, memorializing
Think about this. There are things we can do that will go in God's memory book, for Him to remember; or more likely we could say it is God's bragging book. Think of someone showing off their pictures of their children and telling stories about them to someone. They are proud of their kids.
This is what God wants to do with us -- brag about us. Hey, look what she did for me! Hey, look what he did for me!
Think of the woman in Bethany who sacrificed the very expensive perfume over Jesus (it was like worth a year's worth of wages at least):
"Truly I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of in memory of her.” Matthew 26:16
Jesus said her story goes into the brag book!
Now reread the first scripture reference from Leviticus 2. These memories that go into God's brag book smell good to Him, have a pleasing aroma. Do some research and you'll find out that the smell sense is the one that is the strongest one for bringing back memories. You get that smell that overtakes you. You suddenly are taken back to some sweet scene from your past: your grandma's warm kitchen during a bitter cold night; a beautiful spring day; your mother's perfume.
Our deeds done for God, done through faith and love, have that kind of power for God. God knows everything and He can remember anything He wants at any time; but maybe, just maybe, when taking these scriptures into account, these things that are memorial, honorary memories God keeps of us bring Him additional pleasure when He recounts them. To know I can bring God joy is an amazing thought.
Read this one: "For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints." Hebrews 6:10
And this one: "But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you have sent,a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God." Philippians 4:18
