is the LORD;
The LORD is avenging and
wrathful.
The LORD takes vengeance on
His adversaries,
And He reserves wrath for His
enemies." Nahum 1:2
What lens are you looking through? What did you think when you read the verse quoted above?
If we take this verse and nothing else, we get a gruesome picture of Almighty God. Some people do this. Some will use a verse like this and say the Christian God is evil, horrible, blood-thirsty. I've read similar comments on the web from people who don't know the Scriptures and who have been told this kind of lie about God.
It's a horrible thing to believe a lie about God. It screws up everything, your whole perspective.
Now, I want you to reread the verse above but with this thought: God is a loving Father. These words are words spoken about a loving Father's heart.
OK, did you do it? When seeing this verse through the lens of Fatherhood, it changes it. We see a Father sticking up for His kids, a Father coming to His children's rescue.
And that is what this verse is. God was coming against nations that were pillaging and capturing and hurting His people.
Go down five more verses to Nahum 1:7 and the scripture reads:
"The LORD is good,
A stronghold in the day of
trouble,
And He knows those who
take refuge in Him."
