Seeing the approach of fall in a few little details can remind us we can do the same thing with God. We can go days without seeing anything big happen in the God department. Maybe we have been praying for something or someone and nothing seems to change. Maybe instead of looking for the answer we expect to get, we should just look for little details.
Just this week I was contacted by someone I've never spoken to but have wanted to meet. Our lives are connected by a person, a person my husband and I have been prayng for; a person we see growth in. This unexpected contact was a little detail covered in God's fingerprints I could have neglected to notice (and it came at the perfect time because we had a huge water bill due to a leaky automatic waterer that put a dent in our budget -- thankfully Shannon will have it fixed very soon).
Yesterday was my son Hawken's 19th birthday. I wrote something on Facebook about how his life isn't the life we would have chosen for him, but how it is amazing to watch how God uses Hawk's quiet life the way it is. I shared this because I want people to know we don't have to be showy or in the spotlight to make a difference. We might have a so called "boring" life and think it doesn't matter much. Every life matters as much as the next life. Anyway, God gave me another detail with that. A family member I rarely talk to shared how Hawken has affected her life. It was a reminder that God is indeed working when we just are trying to get through the days.
When we moved up here in 2015 Shannon and I took over the youth group (actually I think we didn't start leading it till 2016 -- years run together). Last year I had a tough time with it. I knew it was important, but emotionally I wasn't in a great spot and so everything was hard. This year we've got into a routine with it that works for us and for the students who attend. We had three new students to youth group this past Wednesday and we had a great discussion. It was really, really good. That is another detail of God's presence. Nothing in our lives is coincidence if we are living for Jesus.
If we open our eyes and take time to be aware of the details we will be encouraged. God never leaves us without His light. Maybe you're in a dark place. His light is shining. Maybe you're tired. He sees this. Jesus says, "Come to Me all you who are weary and heavy-laden and I will give you rest."
