Did you catch that last sentence? Amos was speaking to people who were acting all religious on the outside but inwardly they were prideful and took advantage of the needy among other things. They were great at ceremonies and solemn occasions. God hated them. He hated it because their hearts and lives weren't right with Him.
What about us? Are we caring about those hurting around us? Are we noticing the pain or are we caught up in our own lives? it's easy to get caught up in our own lives because of how busy they are even if we don't want them to be. Busyness doesn't equal good lives.
We have to be part of the community where we live in order to see some of the hurt. Do you know your neighbors? Do you know the people who live down the street?
In order for God to use us we have to know what's going on.
