But I still feel like I've forgotten something . . .
Maybe it's the lack of sun. How do people survive in rainy climates? Gray climates? Some people must be wired from birth to thrive in those places. I am looking forward to our lilac season. They will bloom in June for a few weeks and I will pick them and place them in Mason or Tostito nacho cheese jars (we have a matched set of Tostito jar glasses we use daily) all over the house. Shannon and I pray in the mornings together usually (unless he's way behind schedule and needs to get to school quick). We prayed about my forgotten-something feeling (it's still here, but I am thinking it will float away eventually).
Have you prayed today? Prayer frightens some of us. It shouldn't though. Eugene H. Peterson writes in his devotional Bible, "Prayer is elemental. It is the means by which we get everything in our lives out in the open before God."
I guess that is a scary thought if you don't realize how good God is. He is, as the song says, a "Good, Good Father (Listen to it here if you haven't before or haven't in a long time or need reminding)."
Psalm 121:5 says, "GOD's your Guardian, right at your side to protect you."
Psalm 124:8 says, "GOD's strong name is our help, the same GOD who made heaven and earth."
Psalm 125:2 says, "Mountains encircle Jerusalem, and GOD encircles his people -- always has and always will."
Speak aloud the verses above to get their truths deep into your heart.
Psalms 120 - 134 are called the Psalms of Ascents. Peterson explains, "These fifteen songs were likely sung, possibly in sequence, by Hebrew pilgrims as they went up to Jerusalem to the great worship festivals . . . The trip to Jerusalem acted out a life lived upward toward God, an existence that advanced from one level to another in developing maturity."
We can do the same thing. It is a really good thing to incorporate scripture into our daily lives, into the ordinary moments, into chores and into prayers.
If the sun has been hidden where you are as it has where I am, continue to praise God for the moisture and praise Him for the sun. It will return and the farmers will get in the fields. Things don't happen according to our timetables. Things happen according to God's plan.
"Be brave. Be strong. Don't give up. Expect God to get here soon." Psalm 31:24
