The house we live in is so cozy -- every other house we lived in since 1994 always blessed us with winter drafts. I'd diligently put plastic on the windows every fall (for entertainment we could watch the plastic blow in and out when winds were high).
Not sure why any of that would be interesting to anyone but me, but I got a tangent when I looked out the window! What I really wanted to share with you is this: "Light is sweet, and it is pleasing for the eyes to see the sun." Ecclesiastes 11:7
And that takes me to Matthew 5:14 where Jesus says, "You are the light of the world." and then he instructs us in verse 16 to "let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven."
So, light is sweet -- this world needs a whole lot more authentic sweetness. When was the last time you were around someone you genuinely could say was sweet? That kind of sweetness just melts a heart and makes you smile. I'm not talking about fake syrupy sweetness. The sweetness I'm talking about is genuine love and kindness. Gentleness. A contented peace. Loving just to love with no thought of reward or payback. This world needs more of this.
We all can be genuinely sweet. What melts you? Watching a baby sleep? Holding or feeding a baby? Seeing someone you haven't seen for so long that you have longed to see? A surprise call or visit from someone you love? An unexpected present that is so you?
Whatever it is, do it for others. This world, well, the world we hear about in media and all over social sites and TV is cruel and selfish and lustful and not at all sweet. We don't need any more of that. People don't need any more of what the world throws at us.
Think about being that sweet light now and in the coming year. Let's make our worlds better. Let's not add to the violent rhetoric that permeates all the airways.
"Jesus loves you this I know for the Bible tells me so."
Christmas Eve at 4 p.m. at the Dupree Baptist Church -- hope to see you there.
