"So they came up to Baalperazim, and David defeated them there . . .
"And the Philistines made yet another raid in the valley. And David inquired again of God, and God said to him,' You shall not go up after them: circle around behind them, and come at them in front of the balsam trees. And it shall be when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God will have gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines.'
"And David did just as God had commanded him, and they struck down the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even as far as Gezer." 1 Chronicles 14:8-16
David wasn't a fool. Are we?
Even though God gave David victory the first time, David still asked Him what to do the second time (and notice he was in the same area). David didn't assume with God. David didn't assume God would have him do battle the second time as he did the first.
We can't assume with God.Just because He called us to do something a certain way once and it worked, doesn't mean we should do it that way a second or third time. When we assume we are making man-made rules and taking God out of the equation.
God is the same yesterday, today and forever but He is ever-changing in His dealings with us. He is the Creator, the Great I Am. His character never changes, but his "tactics" do, He will never go against who He is, but He wants to get to our hearts. He knows when we get comfortable doing something a certain way it can lose its meaning in our lives.
Don't assume today.
Ask God for wisdom.
Ask God to show you how He wants you to do that task.
Don't be a fool (fools dash ahead without asking God first. Fools assume and pay for it).
