That is the state of being so seduced by luxury or money or sex or power, some kind of thing that promises us the world, that our senses are numb to anything else. Maybe a big company comes in promising us money if we will agree to have wind turbines on our property (not realizing that there is a 25% chance they will go bankrupt and that these turbines destroy wildlife, human health and take tons of fossil fuels to make and transport these monstrosities to their permanent home).
Maybe a group of people offer you a powerful position if you would only do them a few favors.
Maybe someone you have found attractive throws him/herself at you and offers you all you desire.
Maybe someone gives you things to curry favor with you.
If we do anything just for the money or the power without caring about consequences we will very likely regret our decision. Jesus says in Luke 12:14 to "Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed;"
Don't allow desperation or panic decide things for you.
What if Jimmy Stewart's character in It's a Wonderful Life had panicked? The whole town would have been lost to Mr. Potter who wanted to make money off of everyone not caring how much he hurt them.
For your sake, for your family's sake, for your neighbors' sakes, do not panic. The way our life goes is based on the decisions and choices we make day-by-day. Seek God. Seek His approval, not people's. And do not do anything that contradicts His word.
