The poor will always be with us, Jesus said. And God uses the poor (even if we're part of that population) to keep our hearts tender. When we see people in need around us, do we help? If we don't then we are going against God. If we don't our hearts will begin to harden and grow proud and then we are on our way to some really wrong living.
I heard a comment from someone recently who was angry at people using medicaid for their children because they saw it as they personally were being robbed. They personally were paying for these people's kids' medical care and they didn't think it was fair. They were hard-hearted. They were begrudging the situation.
All we have, all our government has, all everywhere belongs to God. When we start resenting the poor in any fashion we are thinking anti-God thoughts and will most likely do anti-God actions.
If you are part of the poor class (which I have been in and just getting out of it) you can reach out to the poor, meet needs. Because even if we are poor on paper, we are rich in God and He will provide. We always have enough if we are believing in God and trusting Him to provide.
