The reality is is that they are being human -- sinful, fumbling, fragile, breakable humans.
Here is the quote my friend shared by someone named Tyler Staton: “Jesus reveals a God who is offensively human, in contrast to all other world religions . . . A God who displays healing power and also chooses personal suffering as the means to final healing”
Think on that.
Think a long time.
Think about the time you finally forgave your parents for being human (if you haven't, it's time). You could finally see how wonderful they were/are loving you in their frail bodies that got tired and stressed and worried and disappointed. Most parents do the best they can.
Why do we want to follow a teaching, a religion, a way of life that encourages us to strive to be inhuman? Jesus is the only way to heaven; he is also the only one who loves us just as we are. He pursues us when we are rebellious sinners. He pursues us when we don't love him at all -- when we, in fact, hate him. Romans 3:23 says, "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"
What the heck is glory? My favorite definition is beauty -- absolutely awe-inspiring beauty. We've all been awed by nature at some time in our lives. God's beauty. For God's glory -- get it? Oh! God is so so, so beautiful.
Watched a short video about cancel culture. I didn't really know it was -- mainly, it means if someone doesn't agree with you, they are canceled out of your life.
Why have we come so far that we can't disagree and still love each other?
Tomorrow, we celebrate Jesus's resurrection -- his defeat of sin and death and the flesh. He made the way for us to be resurrected too if we believe in him; if we embrace him and stay true to him. Just believe. Just believe with all you've got.
You can deny heaven. You can deny hell. But they are real places; you will go to one of these places once you die. Your soul will either go to God in heaven; or your soul will go to everlasting torment and darkness and pain and complete isolation in hell. Earth is not hell. If you are in hell and if it is possible to remember good times on earth (which I doubt because that would give a person some comfort), earth will appear to be heaven.
C.S. Lewis wrote in The Great Divorce (I love this book -- I wholly recommend it) that he had the opinion that when we were finally in our eternal destination (heaven or hell) our time on earth would feel like the beginning of our eternal destination. I don't know if he is right, but I think so. For when we are in heaven, when we remember things on earth, we'll see the memories from a heavenly perspective (we can do this now if we ask God to help us). We will then be able to see how God was working during those times on earth.
The present thought processes of society (and actually always -- the worldly system has never been a friend to God) are wrong. They are demonic. If something doesn't draw you closer to Jesus, then it is not from Jesus. God doesn't condone anything that takes us away from him. He wants to be in a real friendship with you. It can't happen while you are friends with the world's ways.
If you have forgotten who you are, go back to the beginning -- God made you to be his child. Go there. Start there.
I hope you have a church to attend tomorrow to celebrate Jesus. If you live near us you are invited to attend Dupree Baptist Church. We start at 9 a.m. mountain time. And tomorrow we will have donuts!
