Burnout is common among caregivers but also common to us humans in anything we do. Many symptoms can come out of burnout. Some are: lethargy, depression, cynicism, health issues.
A lot of situations people get burned out in are situations that are ongoing which means the solution isn't in leaving.
So what is the solution?
The one passage in scripture that continues to speak to me about this is in Philippians 4:11 when Paul says, "I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am."
That is the key, but how to access it?
I haven't figured this out yet but there are a few things we can do.
One thing that helps with burnout is seeking out real connections with other people. This is hard for people tied down at home of course, but there is always the telephone.
Very likely my dried-up creativity is due to burnout. That is another area that can help burnout -- expressing your creativity.
We need a new vision and sense of purpose in those areas of burnout. That is something we can pray for.
