"But the Lord answered and said to her, 'Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only a few things are necessary, really only one, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.'"
Luke 10:38-42
Humans by nature are busybodies. We think we know what is best for someone else, especially someone we care about. We often don't trust God with them. We have to butt our nose into their business and try to "help them along."
This isn't how God works or how He calls us to interact with others. He tells us to leave them be. He tells us to let the Holy Spirit do His work.
"Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them . . . Peter therefore seeing him said to Jesus, 'Lord, and what about this man?'
"Jesus said to him, 'If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!'" John 21:20-22
Jesus told Peter to mind his own business. Jesus told Peter to just follow Him and leave the others to Jesus.
Read what Writer Margaret Feinberg has to say: "Almost every person has a different way he or she prefers to worship God. From singing and serving to dancing and praying, each individual desires to creatively worship in his or her own unique way."
Can we let go of the ones we love? Can we allow them the freedom to live without our well-intended "advice?" Can we let go of the fear that causes us to want to control others? Can we just let them be and let God do His work?
