In the verse I quoted above Jonah was mad at God for taking away a plant. Jonah had more compassion for a plant (which had given him shade) than he did for the many people of Nineveh. He didn't want to tell that city's population about God. He wanted them to perish in their sin! But before we judge Jonah for his callousness, sometimes we can be just like him.
Our compassion towards others is cruel compared to God's. God doesn't write anyone off. We do every time we judge someone. Every time we throw someone out with the trash so to speak we break God's heart.
